Manage in-house tax affairs of organisation (including preparing tax returns, calculations), provide tax advice to business areas and correspondence with HMRC

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my tasks and I like learning about new tax case laws and analysing how updates to tax legislations update my organisation. I get exposure to a variety of different taxes.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have improved my communicated, both verbally and by writing, and I have learnt to improve my organisational and time management skills like managing my to-do list for the day and planning of anticiapted tasks of the months and how to identify which ones are more urgent than others.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My tuition provider provides assistance in structuring my exam plan and other apprenticeship requirements, but it is mostly down to me to get clarify directly from the professional body and adjust my programme accordingly.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have option to speak to my line manager on work pressures when it is close to exams and I have option to retake should I not pass first time. I find it is not easy for my manager to allow for me sit for an exam sitting period or get sufficient study leave if there are work pressures

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider provides a clear breakdown of what is required for me to complete the apprenticeship and flexiiblity around busy work periods.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I like their learning contents for the modules I study and the tutors are friendly & helpful

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are some, but there is not the flexibility provided for me by my employer to really commit to any when at work.

Would you recommend Bank of England to a friend?

Yes

Why?

It is an overall good working environment where staff are friendly and there are many opportunities to learn about its operations which is interesting to know.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bank of England?

They value soft skills like communication and understanding of the missionary statement of the Bank as well as displaying the Bank Behaviours and Code of Conduct.
