Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Managing a learning and development team of c.20 people at various stages in their career
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
It has been excellent - literally the most I've ever enjoyed/engaged with learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes - how to flex my management and conversation style to best suit different individual's needs and challenge them to do better

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very. There is a great mix of practical/theory/classroom based and my learning builds up in layers. My mentor also helps challenge me and gets me to reflect on where I can improve further.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Lots - I have the time to do my studying and to apply it at work and there is a pool of people that I can learn from withinn my org too
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Lots - as explained in the previous answer
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has helped me have much better conversations - more empathetic and less directive and also to reflect on my own strengths and weaknesses better and identify areas for personal improvement more honestly. It has also been really motivational for me.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there are occasional events for all apprentices such as during learning at work week/national apprenticeship week. Some apprentices have more than this too but not for the scheme I am doing.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Bank of England to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The support for personal development is excellent - there are a number of different ways that people with little or no previous career experience can join or get experience at the Bank and there are lots of ways that people can learn and grow, more so than anywhere else I've worked.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bank of England?
It is a historic, heritage organisation that also moves very fast and is constantly changing. Although it can look old-fashioned from the outside, the culture is very humble, modest, curious, inclusive and supportive of people's growth. There are lots of great people you can learn from who are happy to share their experience.
