Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Inputting referrals, which are sent through the inbox from the NHS Outlook, attending team meetings, with service provider, or wider team of public health. Carrying out admin responsibilities, ensure that I record the hours I work each day on my time card. Check my emails to see if their have been any updates from my manager/supervisor about any changes to a referral process regarding any new information which has been shared.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am enjoying my apprenticeship a lot, as I am surrounded my such a kind, supportive and friendly team. It has helped my grow my self confidence and knowledge about medical conditions and services which are available to help people of Sandwell.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my IT skills-through carrying out admin roles- through inputting referrals on the system, using Microsoft Excel to update spreadsheets, it has improved my team working skills and my confidence levels to speaking to different colleagues in the team.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship is well organised to help grow my skills and experience for my career and to help me in the future. It involves ensuring I am completing both the work set for my role and completing my online college coursework.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer, who ensures I’m happy and am comfortable with the work and tasks, which I am set to do daily. My employer is supportive and wants me to grow as a person which will help me in the future.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a good amount of support from my training provider, as my assessor ensures that she replies to any queries I may have about the coursework rapidly and the training provider ensures there are online workshops, for each of the units, the assessor sets for me as an apprentice which help complete it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel my qualification helps me perform better as there are work books, which explain aspects of work and how to act in a professional way and it helps me understand customer service a lot more. The online workshops helps me put everything in perspective
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Staff have access to staff sporting sessions such as badminton, football, table tennis, Pilates and book club. There is an intranet page which details these activities. Staff also have access to the Hobby Health app which aims to provide information on hobby groups available within the council and link up staff with similar interests. There is a physical Wellbeing Hub in the council house, plus a My Wellbeing intranet page with details of support available.

Having an apprenticeship within Sandwell Council is amazing, everyone is so supportive and friendly and being able to have the opportunity to have the experience of working with council helps you improve your skills and support your future goals, you feel like one of the team.

It is a good environment to help grow your skills for your career goals, and they are understanding and supportive of apprentices. This is a brilliant to put onto your CV and you get many opportunities at Sandwell Council.
