Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My average day-to-day role includes interacting with colleagues and customers, managing payments, and producing documents.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the "academic" side of things - it's challenging, but that's part of why it's so interesting.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have really developed my independence, confidence and interpersonal skills during my apprenticeship

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
While the work set by my training provider is structured well, it can be difficult to fit this training in within my day to day tasks.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
Managerial support can be somewhat lacking, but the employer's apprenticeships team has been nothing but helpful
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I always know that my learning coach assigned by the training provider is just a call away. Every staff member from my training provider has been really friendly and approachable and seems genuinely happy to help
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification has really helped me in getting to know people and understanding how to be more helpful to customers.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
The HobbyHealth App is available to connect you to other organisation employees with the same interests as you, and there are different sports groups available such as staff badminton. There are also staff networks which help connect groups of staff, e.g. a disability network and LGBTQ+ network

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Sandwell Council to a friend?
Yes
Why?
An apprenticeship with the council is a great first step towards a real career and it comes with benefits such as a good leave allowance. That said, I would highlight that it is important to show your own initiative and independence as support from management can feel very limited at times.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sandwell Council?
- Read the requirements really well when applying
- Be well prepared before any interview etc takes place
- Make sure you have any qualifications you've completed to hand
- Apprenticeships are what you make of them; if you put in the work you'll really see the results!
