Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Right now I am on site on a Monday and Tuesday where I shadow operators to expand my knowledge on how to control processes and troubleshoot if needed. Wednesday to Friday I attend college to complete my HNC and PEO.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy this programme and the people I work with. Coming into this role was totally different for me but I have enjoyed so far.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed my communication skills as well as team working. I have developed my problem solving skills, identifying issues on plant and finding a solution. I have also developed my skills as an operator, being able to follow work instructions and SOPs.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is structured well as my manager has put in place a training plan and framework for me to follow once I am finished college work in June.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive various channels of support from my employer, for example my manager, my mentor who is there to help guide and further my development, as well as the apprentice coordinator who supports all apprenticeships across site.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
At college, the lecturers are supportive and take time to ensure you understand the course content. They are helpful and answer any questions which you may have.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My course at college broadens my knowledge of manufacturing but is not specific to the pharmaceutical industry. It is an interesting course, and covers the basics of manufacturing, and some topics which may be utilised later in my career like quality and production planning.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are employee resource groups available at work which can help create a sense of community. They also provide social events to attend too. As an apprentice, I attend a trip every year to another site to network with fellow apprentices in the UK, which helps to build working relationships.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
