Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is to oversee the people system. I track/monitor/action all people related activities such as but not limited to; attendance, working time regulations, right to work, employee records, training, onboarding and development. I check in with employees informally on a daily basis and also hold formal check ins every 6 months. I also support the management team to follow code of conduct and policies.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I am enjoying the programme, the workbooks are fun to complete and can help me focus on what areas or topics to learn. The layout of the website is easy to navigate and easy to submit assignments. The workshops are also fun, most trainers stay upbeat but there has been a few technical issue on both my side and the trainers side. No matter what I do, I cannot see the content of the slideshows and I was told to purchase Microsoft 365 by a trainer as that would by why I couldn't see the content. Even after paying £60 for the subscription, it still doesn't work. The support and communication from trainers has been a bit hit and miss. I know that if I ask for help, it will be given but there hasn't been much in between the formal progress reviews.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I constantly develop my skills and gain new knowledge as changes/updates are regularly made so I learn new things all the time.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very organised and structured. I was aware of all workshop dates within the first month of starting (one date was communicated wrong). I can see what activities are coming up, usually for the next 1-2 months. The website provides all the information needed to complete activities. Progress reviews are a bit hit and miss as trying to organise for myself, my trainer and my line manager can be difficult and my manager seems to never be aware of when my progress reviews are coming up. Programme is structed well, but there were big assignments one after the other and for me I felt like I couldn't remember or absorb the information when I immediately have to move on to a different topic.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
If I ask, most of the time I am supported.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I think my trainer has done the expected. I don't usually need additional support. Although when my trainer had to have time off, I was paired with another trainer who sent additional documents and focused guides on topics to help me complete the assignments. She also emailed regularly without any prompt from myself.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It's providing the skills, knowledge, guidance and tools for me to put into action at work and improve my overall performance at work. I'm only a third of the way through my apprenticeship, so I'm sure I will learn more and be able to perform my job role confidently.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Social activities are few and far between. I am currently the one who is responsible for organising these events at my restaurant and therefore it is not a social event for me, it is work. I organise the event for employees and I am usually there as a supervisor. There aren't many social events at all for 'middle' management. There is a football team/competition, which I asked to join this year but the dates etc weren't communicated to me. I was invited to the AGM meeting last year, but not this year which would've been the only professional networking event I could've attended.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
If I have understood the question correctly, that I would recommend McDonalds to a friend, then yes I would. It is a good place to work to gain skills, knowledge and hard graft. The people I work with are the some of the greatest people I've ever met. I would not recommend it as a long term career though.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
I would advise them to be prepared for a high pressured environment but to try and enjoy it. Get to know the team and take initiative to learn. I would also encourage them to read the employee handbook, learning journals and use our inhouse website to stay up to date.
