Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a product management apprentice my responsibilities vary depending on the team I am doing my rotation with. Currently my daily responsibilities include setting up offers, setting up the Priority app, reporting on the performance of expired offers, managing relationship with partnership agencies, and occasionally doing some strategy work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme and would definitely recommend to others. I am fortunate enough to be close to my apprentice cohort, making some long-term friends. They make the programme very enjoyable and we are able to lean on each other for support and encouragement. The programme has allowed me to learn what work I enjoy doing and what I may not see myself continuing in the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed a range of skills including: stakeholder management, time management, leadership, project planning & delivery, collaboration, statistics reporting, data analysis, presentation, and gaining proficiency in tools such as Monday.com, CMS, Figma, Swrve, Microstrategy, excel, PowerPoint etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the structure and opportunities provided through this apprenticeship programme. We rotate across different teams every 7-9 months, allowing me to gain exposure to various areas of the business and pick up new skills and experiences. We have a dedicated study day every week to ensure we have sufficient time to focus on our studies - from my experience, these study days have always been respected and taken seriously by managers. We also have a scheme lead and sponsor who maintain a close relationship with us, they provide ongoing support and we are able to raise any concerns we may have with them with the confidence it will be addressed and resolved. Our training provider allocates each apprentice a coach who provides guidance and support from throughout the programme. All these aspects ensure we are well supported in this apprenticeship, allowing us to enjoy the experience and make the most of it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. This includes the various managers i have had throughout my rotations, along with everyone involved in my apprenticeship scheme. Our scheme leads consistently check on us to ensure we are supported and getting the most out of our rotations. And managers work closely with us to understand what we are looking to gain from being on their team, and how we will go about achieving this. Even those who are not involved with the apprenticeship scheme show curiosity when I mention I am on the scheme, and always offer help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We are allocated a coach from the start of our apprenticeship. I had review meetings with the coach and my managers at the time, roughly every 6 weeks- in these meetings we review my progress on the team and how I am getting on with my studies. Guidance & materials are provided by the coach to ensure we are able to pass our portfolios/exams. Once I complete a portfolio I receive feedback on what I did well and what to improve on. Prior to my exam and end point assessment, we are given mock exams by the training provider to ensure we are prepared. Overall, a lot of support if provided by the training provider.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I find it particularly helpful when I am able to apply the theoretical knowledge gained through my qualification into my role. I am able to understand how the knowledge from my qualification translates into real life scenarios, which further solidifies my knowledge. My qualification also really helps when I am working on a team that does not have many project management professionals- in these scenarios I am able to step in and apply my knowledge to support the work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At my company we have a community for all graduates, interns and apprentices called the FCC (Future Careers Community). There are many opportunities provided to FCC members via socials, networking events, workshops etc. For example, I have often attended FCC socials in order to meet and network with my peers. I have also been a DE&I rep on the Future Careers Committee, working to deliver DE&I related initiatives to the community. I have had the opportunity to host induction for new cohort of apprentices and really get involved with onboarding new apprentices. Teams also tend to do off-sites every quarter where we get together as a team outside of the office to reflect and grow as a team. Teams also try to organise volunteering days as part of our "take five" paid volunteering days, and each year our company does the big ride where a select number of employees are cycle/run to raise money for charity,

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Virgin Media O2 to a friend?
Yes
Why?
This is an apprenticeship programme that provides many opportunities for growth and nurtures us into well-rounded professionals, particularly for those who may not have worked in a corporate environment before. It is well structured programme that enables us to work towards a qualification whilst gaining experiences and skills by rotating around different areas of the business. The apprenticeship allows us to learn a lot about ourselves as professionals and helps us consider what our future may look like.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2?
Do your research on the company, have an understanding of the company's values and initiatives before applying. If you make it to the assessment centre, try to be your authentic self - this will come across a lot better than attempting to put forward a certain persona of what you think they are looking for. Demonstrate that you are able to self reflect and most importantly, work collaboratively in a team whilst maintaining some individualism and critical thinking.
