Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As the Recruitment retention & Business Engagement Manager I am responsible for recruiting and retaining staff in The Intergrated Contact Centre. I also support the department by organising departmental events such as annual Divisional Day, Star Service Awards and Management events. Alongside the above responsibilities I am a UK Wellbeing Champion.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoyed the regular workshops with other people on the programme where we were able to share best practice and coach each other in a safe environment giving each other honest feedback. I have also enjoyed working on the online assignments which were varied and taught/refreshed my current skillset

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
During my last apprentice which was a Level 5Coachin Professional Apprentice, I have learnt how to coach and not to Mentor. As an employee of the business for the last 21 years I have impulsively always attempted to mentor or lead, coaching has enabled me to approach situations differently now.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I found my own pace and structure as I moved forward with the assignments & workshops. I recommended the course to a colleague and was able to give her some valueable tips and advice on how to manage her time during the course, looking back this would have been useful for me
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My Employer have been 100% flexible throughout my learning & development. On the occasions where my work volumes did not allow for a study day I was able to take the time back when my schedule was not quite so busy. If I fell behind my employer was always flexible to allow me to catch up.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I had regular 1:1 meetings with my skills coach from babington. I attended monthly workshops with my training provider. When I expressed I was struggling with practising my skills and getting feedback my training provider arranged for me to attend coach camp where I was able to attend coaching sessions with other people on the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification has helped me refresh existing skills, learn new skills and build in confidence. I find that I now approach situations differently by actively listening and pausing and allowing someone to speak and tell their story. I think about asking open questions to find out more about the person speaking and not sharing my own experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes we are given 37.5 hours a year to volunteer which we tend to do as a team to take advantage of the team building opportunity, We often have Apprentice drop in sessions where apprentices can get together and share best practice. Our Customer services team are particularly sociable and are always organising socials such as football, bowling, charity fund raising.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have worked for Pearson for 21 years and during this time I have performed several different roles and completed 3 apprenticeships. As an employer Pearson have supported my Learning, Development &Career. We have one of the best benefits packages and the salary has always been fair and competitive with other employers.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
This is a difficult question being the person that is recruiting for our business area. The best advice to bring your true self to the interview and by demonstrating the right behaviours, by being interested and by being curious you will learn and develop very quickly. Make sure your CV tells the full story, check dates, check grammar, and explain any gaps do not leave anything up to Pearson to Guess, don't just send a CV tell us why its important for you to come and work at Pearson.
