Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I build computer based exams to client specification and publish to Pearson VUE's testing system. This involves liaising with clients to develop and manage the test publishing process. This involves working on small scale and larger scale projects. I need to frequently communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the impact it will have my CV and future career opportunities. I also enjoy learning new things and skills. However, I don't enjoy the length of the workshops I have to attend and sometimes I struggle to balance the apprenticeship alongside my day to day busy job.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt new project management skills and project management terminology. I have also further developed my communication and leadership skills and understanding of different project management concepts. I have also developed my IT skills and my understanding of risk management. Time Management and Team Collaboration skills have also improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I would say that the programme is reasonably well structured but as previous stated I think the length of the monthly workshops are too long at 3 hours each and I would have preferred they be split into two shorter ones twice a month. I think my current skills coach helps me to stay organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support is always available from my employer when I need it and I am given the hours I need to to complete my off the job hours. In addition, I had some issues at the beginning of my apprenticeship with a skills coach that I didn't gel with and this was resolved effectively with the assistance of my employer.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My skills coach is great and I receive any support I ask for. For example, I have frequent catch ups with her when she checks that I'm on track and also assists me in understanding what is required from me when completing the assignments. She is very approachable and happy to help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Completing this qualification has I think enhanced my ability to perform my role more effectively. I think it has helped me when working on bigger projects and understanding the terminology and best practice processes. In addition, it has helped both my confidence and problem solving skills. It has also encouraged me to meet different people in the business.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We sometimes have Christmas or Winter parties organised for the company. The Early Careers apprenticeship team also offers regular in person meet ups in different office locations that we are encouraged to attend. I'm not aware of any sports teams that I would have the opportunity to join or anything like that.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have worked here a number of years and have had a positive experience with them giving me the opportunity to pursue additional qualifications which I think is important when developing my career. In addition, I enjoy the flexible remote working that I am able to do as it allows a good work life balance.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
I don't really have any specific tips or advice for applying to Pearson PLC as I myself applied to work here 8 years ago. However, I think being pro-active is always a good start and having good communication skills is particularly important. In addition, be open to taking advantage of opportunities.
