Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Performing detailed data anlysis of apprenticeship completions undertaking End-Point Assessment with Pearson. This is used to gather intelligence on high performing questions per apprenticeship standard and to identify key trends and themes.
Engagement with training providers (and colleges) & employers over the delivery of apprenticeship standards.
Recruitment and standardisation of IEAs (independent end-point assessors)
Management of Lead IQAs (Lead Internal Quality Assurers), conducting their one-to-one reviews on a monthly basis.
Creation of various Tableau dashboards using Google BigQuery (SQL queries) for various business needs and objectives
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I generally enjoy my apprenticeship programme, as it has provided me the opportunity to learn new and hone existing skills which are vital for my role and assists with meeting my department's annual OKRs (Objectives and Key Results).
Furthermore, it has allowed me to engage with fellow apprentices on my apprenticeship pathway, it gives a key insight of how other organisations do things, and helps with best practice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Improved my current skill set of using SQL, that I can use this to enhance the reports I build ultimately using data visualisation tools such as Tableau and/or Power BI.
Began using Python for advanced statistical analysis, whilst I do not use in my role (yet), gaining the principles of how to create analyses, charts is beneficial.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship programme is well structured, and effectively managed. There are always continuous touchpoints to check progress or any pain points which may be impacting progress. Any feedback is acted upon as a matter of urgency.
At Pearson, we have several apprenticeship ambassadors, therefore, if the manager of the programme is unavailable, there are other avenues to gather support from.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I personally receive a lot of support from my employer, particularly my line manager. He is often active in my quarterly review meetings, provides opportunities to utilise my skills within the workplace on projects that would be beneficial for my portfolio.
Furthermore, I also receive support directly from the Apprenticeships Programme team, from the manager, and the team of ambassadors that are available to provide varying levels of support.
Separate Programme Induction to the training provider one, Ambassadors to support, Early Careers Team attend gateway meeting and provide support with mocks and EPA prep, networking events and NAW activities, corporate member of Association of Apprentices, Credly credentialing of skills, celebration and awards events & encourages use of volunteering days to get involved in supporting career fairs and school engagement work.
The Early Careers Team are always on hand if I have any issues.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
At the university we are assigned a Digital Skills Coach, who is the first point of contact at the training provider when I require additional support or an issue has arisen which needs to be escalated (for example). He is always available via Teams and email, and is very responsive and will always do his best to resolve issues.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I would say it has helped me do better in my current role, specifically in regard to the data analysis aspect. Without it, I would be doing things the long way and manipulating Excel spreadsheets and cleansing the data. Whereas now I have certain set of skills that allow me to do things efficiently and reduce time spent on manual tasks.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are volunteering initiatives that we an get involved with, there are different types that we can choose from on an annual basis. In the past there have been times where we would play football after work in a local park, as a way of unwinding and relieving any stress.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Since working for Pearson, I have come a long way, professionally.
I first began my life with Pearson working for customer services (taking calls and answering emails), I had a keen interest in data, and often expressed my interest in assisting with presenting vital stats to management. This was my first exposure.
Just before Covid-19 hit, I moved to EPA Delivery as an EPA Administrator where I was specifically doing EPA admin tasks, this was beneficial as gave me an insight into End Point Assessment. Since 2021, I have moved upwards on the career trajectory, first becoming an Assessment Leader then subsequently taking on the role of Senior Assessment Leader.
Adding to this the continuous support and opportunity to pursue a degree level apprenticeship focusing on my areas of interest and strengths shows the level of commitment Pearson has with further developing existing staff.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
I would suggest highlighting unique skills you possess, as this is often overlooked. Emphasise your problem-solving skills, ability to work collaboratively, and respect for colleagues and customers. As we move into the realm of GenAI, I would suggest looking into basic courses in how to effectively use AI tools, ethics and responsibility.
