Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I process university applications for postgraduate admissions, currently focusing on Chinese and UK applicants. I check documents and qualifications to decide whether to give an offer or reject an applicant. I have also previously been a part of a project automating application processing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I have found my role and the apprenticeship interesting, though it could be more challenging.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt how to use Microsoft Dynamics, project management strategies and tools, and am developing my professional social skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Quite well organised, we have regular monthly taught sessions and monthly meetings with our skills coach.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I am confident that I would receive the support I need from my employer, though I haven't needed any yet.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Quite a lot of support, I can message my skills coach at any time with queries or worries and she supports me with them. We also have regular monthly meetings where this can be brought up/addressed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The information covered so far in the qualification has been fairly straight forward, so I don't feel it has had much of an impact on my performance in my role. Exceptions include creating a PDP and gaining an understanding of stakeholders within the automation project.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There is some but none that I would be interested in. Any I have thought I'd enjoy run during work hours which is inconvenient. I have been trying to find clubs and events but they aren't clearly advertised.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Newcastle University to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The workplace culture is friendly and welcoming, flexibility with working from home is a plus, though this could be implemented further, (e.g. requiring me to be in office when there's no actual need for me to physically be there adds unnecessary stress.)
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Newcastle University?
Dont be nervous, its not as intimidating as you first think.
