Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Fixing streetlights, fault finding, Testing columns to make sure cables are safe, changing lanterns on the columns when broken, replacing cut outs within the streetlight when required, cable jointing underground cables when required, sometimes installing a whole new column when it's required to move or if it's been knocked down.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme a lot, its an exciting trade to learn and experience and will give me plenty of skills for the future, I enjoy it because I am constantly doing different things every day and experience new challenges every day and not every day is the same which keeps me engaged
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've definitely learnt new skills since starting the apprenticeship programme, continue to learn every day, from little things such as learning how to use a new piece of equipment like crimpers pliers etc, to larger scales such as how to fault find. How to use a breaker, how to install a cutout etc
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

To be honest the programme from balfour Beatty themselves is well structured, putting me through courses to expand my skills however not over loading my schedule, early careers programme they have me doing is good too. However the college side has been a bit of a let down, as they don't have a set schedule for college as the new building we are meant to be using isn't open yet which is a bit disappointing
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Recieve enough. Managers helps when needed and keeps me up to date which tasks I need to complete etc, I have some good mentors and work colleagues round me that can help me day to day if I'm struggling with anything and are more than happy to show me how to do stuff
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Not much support yet as the training provider have let me down with not having a training centre open as of yet, they have supported to an extent with the circumstances and are continuing to update as and when the training centre will open but Support hasn't been great
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Only just started so can't really say I'm too confident as of yet and haven't really been able to do much with training provider towards qualification apart from online exams, not been able to do any practical work with training so hasn't really helped much or at all with helping in my role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Early careers programme with balfour Beatty, helps with good networking to other apprentices around the country. Going to the lakes soon for a week and doing some fun and engaging activities and I think that's something good to look forward too. Helps you get out there and make connections with others
