Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I work closely with radiographers, utilising a variety of imaging modalities such as plain X-ray, CT, MRI and theatre in different settings, including outpatient, inpatient and A&E, to provide accurate and rapid diagnostic medical evidence that help patients receive timely treatment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I found that the apprenticeship programme provided more hands-on opportunities, allowing me to spend a lot of time on placement across multiple departments in diagnostic radiography, where I learned a wide range of skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Over the last two years during my apprenticeship, I have gained a strong knowledge of human anatomy and bone structure. I have also developed skills in utilising various diagnostic machines, including X-ray, C-arm, CT and mobile X-ray.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The education provider is Sheffield Hallam University and I believe that the diagnostic radiography programme is well-structured, although it requires a significant amount of self-study and learning on the job.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
As I am the first apprentice in the department, it has been a learning curve for both myself and my employer. There have been a few changes and adjustments, but my employer is trying their best to support apprentices in the department.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Sheffield Hallam University provides support through an academic advisor, a work-based coach and a course team that I can always approach for further help. I also have access to additional support, including librarians and workshop webinars.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
After I complete the three-year degree apprenticeship, I will obtain a degree qualification, which will enable me to progress in my career within the radiography department.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
The hospital offers 7.5 hours per week of protected study time, which I have been utilising for professional networking events and relevant topic webinars.
