Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

At JLL I rotate through a variety of different roles within their financial department, giving me a wide range of experience across a number of teams. This has enabled me to see a variety of different functions that lead to the operation of a successful financial department in a large company.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have very much enjoyed the programme. There has been a wide variety of tasks available for me to complete within the workplace, all of which I find engaging and informative. Additionally the company culture within the workplace is exceptional and has contributed to the enjoyment of my day-to-day role

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a wide range of new skills within my role. Having operated from JLL's accounting platform, which is different from standard accountancy models in order to fit the requirements of the industry in which they operate, I have had exposure to both the general processes of accountancy as well as the additional tasks and functions that are carried out within the real estate industry. They also provide internal training on things such as presentation skills and stakeholder engagement for those in the Early Careers programme.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Whilst communication at some points can be slightly shorter notice than I would have liked, the overall provision and structure of the programme at JLL is well thought out. The rotations through departments provide a good understanding of the overall company structure and processes, and give valuable insight as to the functioning of a variety of teams which allows for a more cohesive collaborative experience when working together further down the line. Additionally JLL provides internal training pertaining to the operation of accountancy within the real estate sector to support learning alongside the AAT qualifications. There is however a certain degree of crossover and duplication between the different additional training provisions, which to a degree takes away from time that could be spent getting practical training on more relevant work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The support as it pertains to on-the-job training variable between teams. Within the workplace you are expected to reach a point where you can function at an equal capacity to a standard member of staff. Whilst this is not a problem in itself, there are times at which the teams in which you are placed are too busy to provide the level of support I would deem appropriate for a new starter. Given time, enough resources are provided to become comfortable in any given role, however it can be that it takes around 4-6 weeks before feeling as though you are able to function at the required level
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support when it comes to completing my qualifications is exemplary. There is immense flexibility on the days you can take as your study day, as well as other flexible arrangements to support the pursuit of the qualifications. The only difficulty I have encountered is that of completing the apprenticeship tasks not directly related to a module, as finding time to complete things such as portfolio work when completing day-to-day tasks can be difficult at times due to the volume of work that has to be completed as part of the office work
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Due to the rotations I was put into, at times it felt like the content I was studying was incredibly different to the work I was completing in my office hours. As the client accounting rotation is the only one that uses a majority of the content covered in the AAT qualifications, it can cause quite a disconnect and make it hard to apply the content being learnt within the workplace. This could vary depending on the order of rotations and modules completed though so is not entirely at fault of the employer
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a wide variety of additional activities to get involved in within the workplace, involving after-work clubs and groups, as well as days which are spent as office-bonding activities. There are also opportunities to often get involved in the organisation of these events, as well as being provided with 2 volunteering days per year to use.

Why?
Excellent office culture and activities. Incredible co-workers who have always been supportive and encouraging, as well as many opportunities to progress your career within the company. Additionally the pay is exceptional for apprentices due to them being a national living wage employer, however this does seem to level out once completing qualifications and falls very much in line with industry standard, or slightly below
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLL?
There is a wealth of content and processes to learn, so be eager and ask questions. Make sure to get stuck in and enjoy yourself, and make the most of the wonderful people around you.
