Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a project manager, my daily role involves managing the delivery of projects. I generally chair meetings like stand ups, update project finances and spend trackers, engage with clients, create project plans and ensure everything is running smoothly with my projects.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy being an apprentice at CGI. The Programme has good support from the Early Careers team and we have a appoint Early Careers Lead who is really helpful. The Programme has a range of insight sessions and develop together days.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Throughout my apprenticeship, I have gained several skills. Through learning on the job, I have increased my confidence, presentation, project management skills. I've also gotten better at time management and being organised.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I would say the Programme is structured and organised as support is provided and there have been several early careers cohorts before mine. In terms of adding more structure, a rotation scheme has recently launched and hopefully that will continue to progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
CGI have several channels to provide support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
BNU provide a minimal amount of support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Certain modules are more relevant than others, but generally I look at the transferable skills and knowledge and use that to excel within my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, CGI offers a range of networks. I am part of the REACH Network (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) and they host a series events like Eid lunches, events for BHM and Diwali. The Sports and Social Club is really good as they offer subsidised events like Go Karting and bouldering.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
Yes
Why?
CGI is a good place to excel within your career and enjoy yourself. The culture is partner focused and although I am an apprentice, I have taken part in meaningful work and am able to drive my career forward with relevant support.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
Be unique in your application and make sure you standout through showing a versatile range of experiences like extracurriculars. Also, take a deep dive into the company website and articles and find ways you can link it to yourself or your interests to show you have done research.
