I am a Work Experience Manager within a University Careers Service. I manage a team of 6 overseeing work experience programs, including student recruitment, collaborating with recruiting managers and networking with local employers. I ensure compliance, manage funding, and develop opportunities to support students focusing on part-time jobs and internships.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my Operational Department Management Level 5 apprenticeship. It provides valuable opportunities to network with others in management roles, allowing me to share insights and learn from their experiences. The program also offers dedicated time to reflect and focus on my own development, enhancing both my skills and confidence.

Through my Operational Department Management Level 5 apprenticeship, I've developed my confidence in my leadership and project management skills, enhanced my strategic planning abilities, and improved my communication and problem-solving techniques. I have received substantial support from my employer, manager, and team members throughout my apprenticeship. Their guidance and encouragement have been invaluable, helping me balance my work and studies effectively. This supportive environment has greatly contributed to my learning and development.

I receive a lot of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. If my tutor isn't available, his team is always on hand to assist. This consistent support ensures I have the guidance and resources needed to succeed in my apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification through my training provider has significantly enhanced my performance in my role. My confidence has massively increased, enabling me to integrate what I've learned into my work. I am now a more self-aware, confident, and efficient manager, with a deeper understanding of how my behavior and actions impact others.

Yes, there are plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my work. The Organisational Development team offers a great range of courses and events that have significantly developed my skills. Additionally, there are numerous opportunities to engage in wellbeing activities, social events, and professional networking, providing a well-rounded experience.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Newcastle University?
When applying to Newcastle University, my advice is to be open-minded. Some roles may seem more complicated than they actually are, and job descriptions can sometimes be misleading. As someone who has never been to university, I initially doubted my skills and experience, but I've realised that I bring a unique set of abilities and perspectives. Don't underestimate the value of your own experiences and skill
