Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
Inducting: Processing incoming items into the system, scanning barcodes, and ensuring everything is correctly labeled and sorted.
Quality Checks: Verifying items for damage or errors to maintain high quality and reduce returns.
Health and Safety Compliance: Following strict safety guidelines, using proper lifting techniques, and wearing PPE to maintain a safe working environment.
Team Collaboration: Communicating with other departments like stowers, pickers, and management to keep workflows smooth.
Applying Supply Chain Knowledge: Linking real-world tasks to my apprenticeship learning, such as understanding stock rotation, inventory control, and logistics planning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I like that I can directly apply what I’m learning—such as supply chain processes, inventory control, and lean operations—to my day-to-day tasks in the warehouse. It’s rewarding to see how small improvements can make a big impact on productivity and customer satisfaction.
I also enjoy developing professionally, gaining new skills, and seeing my confidence grow over time. The support from colleagues, trainers, and managers helps me stay motivated and focused. Overall, it’s a valuable experience that’s helping me build a strong foundation for a long-term career in the supply chain industry.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Inventory Management: I’ve gained a deeper understanding of how stock is tracked, stored, and moved within the warehouse. This includes learning about inventory systems and how they connect to the broader supply chain.
Process Improvement: My apprenticeship has helped me identify ways to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and support continuous improvement initiatives on the warehouse floor.
Data Awareness: I’ve started to use data more confidently to understand performance metrics and how they impact supply chain operations.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
There’s a clear link between what I’m learning in the course and the tasks I carry out at Amazon. For example, topics like stock control, logistics, and health & safety are directly related to my day-to-day responsibilities like packing, inducting, and managing workflow.
I also appreciate how the curse includes regular check-ins with my tutor and workplace mentor. This gives me a chance to reflect on what I’ve learned, get feedback, and ask questions. It helps me stay focused and ensures I’m progressing both academically and professionally.
Overall, the structure supports my learning and development well, while also being flexible enough to fit around my working hours.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
My tutor is approachable and always available to answer questions or explain things if I’m unsure.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
By learning about topics like lean operations, logistics, and health and safety, I’m able to approach tasks more efficiently and with greater attention to detail. It also helps me spot areas where improvements can be made, which supports Amazon’s focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
