Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Upgrading devices, working on Service Desk, phoning users to help and resolving Microsoft, Windows or Android style tickets. I also do many site visits across the force to assist in IT related issues / projects.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my job, roles and responsibilities as an apprentice. Everyone has been very welcoming since day 1 and was happy to train me on any areas I was struggling in. The training provider TDM has also been great and they provide a vast amount of training to ensure I wont struggle in my day to day role.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I have developed both technical and communication skills since working at West Midlands Police. This is because of the different types of stakeholders we work with daily and the different types of users I deal with. Their level of technical understanding can differ so I had to also develop my patience and professionalism.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well organised. I began on teams which weren't so technical so I could understand the organisation, their systems and operations before having access to more important systems. I liked this approach as it allowed me to be confident in how the organisation operates. Service desk taught me a lot and I picked up many skills from the team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support, consistent check ups and meetings to ensure I am okay and happy in the workplace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support is great. They host consistent workshops for my courses to ensure I know exactly what to hit off on my criteria. I also have frequent check ins with my coaches to keep me on track within the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It helps me perform better as I have the opportunity to increase my skillset and implement this into work. For example, any theoretical knowledge I gain from my courses, I can implement into a real time environment at work.

Why?
It's a muli-cultural working environment full of support, welcomeness and a great level of training. The opportunity to really upskill your knowledge and skillset within IT is great as there are so many teams you could venture into within IT.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to West Midlands Police?
Be yourself, show off your skill set, capabilities and achievements. Demonstrate technical skills and how you've tried to up skill your knowledge individually outside of work or school.
