Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as an apprentice in the salon is to assist other stylists in there services, to offer support to both clients and stylists during and after their appointments, to maintain the salon standards as well as shadow techniques in order to be if it my core skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the professionalism maintained throughout my programme, my questions are always answered with motivation to improve my knowledge, regardless of how often I do have questions to ask. My time is respected and I appreciate the authentic teaching style that feels as though your learning is directed at each students individual capability. I enjoy working for a company that can provide in such a way.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I had already acquired some general skills (communication, time keeping, initiative) from my previous workplace, however TONI&GUY have amplified my skill set by regularly teaching me how to progress in both maintaining a professional but welcoming standard with clients. My styling skills have improved massively under Toni and guys wing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Our programme is unique to us, each student is given between 2-3 years to qualify and nobody is held back from excelling where speed is noticed. I have been learning under a well structured and helpful curriculum, enough so, that my end point assessment is sooner than originally predicted and I have been given the opportunity to develop higher level skills while the other students are still under priority to finish their regular tasks. It really is all hands on deck.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have received both working support, well being support and general support from my employer. Where I have asked for help has always been prioritised and met, questions I have are always answered as soon as possible and they can be very flexible where needed. I am constantly offered the opportunity to speak upon any problems I may be having and my reviews are regular to ensure I am happy and progress is being made to the best of my ability.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support, models have been provided for the entirety of my apprenticing to ensure I can pass off both styling and technical work. There is a scheduled review every 8 weeks to ensure I have met targets and if I haven’t I am always asked in what way my provider can help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The training provided at the academy ensures that I can show up better as an assistant in my salon hours, I am able to provide more assistance in colour services aswell as recommend products using my product knowledge. The diversity training also allows me to acknowledge client needs and care during and after services.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are regular team meeting that ensure we are communicative with one another and teamwork is essential. Regular work events that keep the salons updated in future company events. We support LFW which assistants are allowed to attend and support outside of work. There is always something going on at the academy where stylists can visit to revitalise their knowledge which is also super helpful in maintaining a relevant skill set.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Toni & Guy to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend T&G to a friend as their apprentice is scheme promises you exactly what they can and have delivered- a good skill set and an active commitment to reaching your hairdressing goals. On completion of your apprenticing there are further avenues made available to ensure you’re always learning and moving as opposed to the cliche stand still salon life.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Toni & Guy?
I would advise that they explore not only what the apprenticing provides but how wide the TONI&GUY world actually expands to. There are salons around the entirety of the UK that can allow a flexible lifestyle, regardless of what your other life plans entail, a career will always be waiting for you.
