Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In my role in corporation tax, I build relationships with clients through calls and emails where we aim to assist them in preparing accurate tax estimates and returns. This follows on to then collaborating with my team, we create the most efficient and client centric plan to ensure submissions to HMRC are precise and timely. Part of my role in this is to analyse client data and focus on areas of complexity to prevent under or overpayment of taxes while building strong relationships through regular client emails, calls and in-person meetings. EY provide the opportunity for coaching new team members and participating in regular progression check-ins with managers to help me grow professionally.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy this role, which is helped by my interest in this area of finance, but also by the supportive team environment, opportunities for growth, and the chance to connect with great colleagues. The hybrid working model is great and the Level 7 training program boosts my professional development and overall job satisfaction.

My role has helped me to analytical skills, teamwork, client relationship management, coaching abilities, tax expertise, and adaptability in navigating complex tax matters.
I have also been able to work on enhancing my networking and professional growth through the teams and clients we work with.

My role is well-structured, with set training and college weeks prioritised for my development over client commitments. The team is highly respectful of this time. We have quarterly feedback sessions and an annual review that guide our growth, recognise achievements, and identify areas for improvement.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have received exceptional support, with recognition for my successes and opportunities for firm-wide internal recognition and competitions. EY invests in the development of new team members, encouraging us to show our strengths and feel valued within the organisation.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We receive dedicated time off for exam preparation and great support throughout the Level 7 qualification, ensuring we do our best throughout the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification is to become a charted accountant, which gives a great insight into all areas of the business and also has its focus on tax which helps me in my role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are numerous extracurricular activities, particularly through our range of sports teams. These teams regularly train and compete, which is a great opportunity to meet with colleagues and promoting teamwork and healthy competition. Additionally, we have social nights out that help to build our relationships in a more relaxed setting, alongside various communities that encourage collaboration and engagement.
