Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Working as a member of team to deliver projects on time and in the most effective manner,
Production of mechanical and schematic drawings, using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical,
Production of technical and commercial documents associated with a product's design,
Procuring BOM (Bill of Materials) spreadsheets, further enquiring price quotations from manufacturers and creating component requisitions for order,
Monitoring and actively working alongside a build team to complete the cubicle manufacturing
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The programme itself was fairly enjoyable. Hard but enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Formal document writing skills,
Communication skills with different stakeholders,
Verbal speaking skills,
Technical engineering knowledge,
Experience of real-time industry events,
Team working and interactive skills,
Problem solving and accuracy reviewing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The process of completing the log books changed numerous times in the five years. This was the only negative from my experience, but I have 0 complaints about the structure. I believe that the 5-year is more beneficial than the new 3-year course as the first year for apprentices is really an introduction/trial to the engineering field. Meaning they have less time to acquire the skills and competency before their examination.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
By my third year, Capula had made a support system for the apprentices. This was heavily valuable and I hope they still maintain a personal interaction for all apprentices. My success in completing the degree is partially because of the support from Capula (Maria Carrol & Adrian Smith specifically)
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A good amount outside of the degree. I was quite surprised with how much support they were able to offer when submitting my IET log book. It helped a lot.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Mainly being a design engineer, I have used little of what I have learned within University in my daily projects (calculating the power of a component, is an example of what I have used). But it is not everyday that I am looking back on what I had learnt or studied.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are engineering ambassador activities and sometimes social activities
