Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
At the beginning of my role it was slow, but since joining a new project team I have been given all new responsibilities such as subcontract management, reporting & forecasting, dealing with CE's & EWN's and a little taster to all thing relating to the role and for the future.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy what I do alot, it feels as if all weeks and days fly over especially when I am so busy. But it also offers the feeling of not full time work, with a day a week at university gives a nice break away and hopefully abit of easing into full-time after uni weeks

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Everything I have learnt about the industry and this career is new to me, as I came right from Sixth form with no real construction experience I had no idea what I was walking into. This role has also helped my life skills giving me more confidence in speaking and holding conversations in the real world

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme has been quiet hit and miss so far, but as it is only a new remote course this was expected. From struggling to get proper contacts from uni or going to our semester campus weeks with no relevant material being taught I feel as if there is defiantly room for improvement and I hope the years below can benefit from it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Everyone from work has always been so helpful, they have been so patient while I learn the ropes and willing to help when they can, we work with alot of experienced people who are always willing to lend a hand at work, for uni work or even in areas outside of work if we need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The training provider is always offering to join calls to help with areas relating to uni such as Off The Job Learning diaries, but when it came time I have needed real assistance I have struggled to get in contact with the relevant people. In times like assignment due dates or when I needed to resit a test I could never get a response and still waiting now
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
There is quiet a difference between what we learn in uni and what I do in work due to what is covered on the course, I feel the course is very structures based where as I work in Civils. This means alot of assignments or demo's relate to house building which is hard to relate over to my kind of work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
In the first 2 years you start here there are plenty opportunities through the early careers programme, they send you to conferences with all other early careers members and give you opportunity to go to the Lake District with your cohort it is great to meet people at the same level. But now I am more attended social events in the region or within my project team which is great.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Ever since I got here I have been made to feel welcomed by everyone. While giving time to settle in and not rushed I have also learnt alot and gained confidence in work. I don't believe you are looked after better anywhere else than here, especially with setting you up for the future and giving you the best chance at succeeding.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
When applying make sure you research about what the company wants and make sure you skills suit what is being required. If you think you are a good fit then you probably are, the interview process is nothing to be worried about with the people interviewing you there as nice as everyone within the business.
