Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role is working in the financial planning and analysis team. I run monthly reports for various divisions and cost centres, providing updates on how much of the budget has been spent to date, and how much remains. I am also involved in other accounting ad hoc tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I really enjoy my programme because I have seen progress and growth in my accountancy knowledge and application. Working with numbers also feels rewarding when reconciling files and seeing the real-world relevance. It is also motivating to see the career prospects at the BBC once qualified.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed Excel skills and my skills using accounting systems such as SAP and AFO, using these tools daily to complete tasks. I have also developed other soft skills such as building relationships and using Teams to communicate with colleagues when discussing reports.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The apprenticeship is structured well, and the practical experience has provided me with a deeper understanding of accounting principles, and the confidence to apply knowledge in the real-world. However, I found that the learning provider BPP have not been very organised in terms of the structure of the learning and skills and behaviours aspect of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My employer provides a lot of support for the apprenticeship and have been very encouraging in terms of providing myself with time for study. The team I work in have been encouraging and have provided support for my role to make sure I understand the tasks I need to perform. They have also been supportive with any questions that I have had.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The training provider has not been the best in terms of communication or understanding the course from a students perspective. As the course is full on and there are a lot of deadlines with insufficient and unrealistic time frames. The organisation has also been poor at times with confusion over the dates for progress reviews and coaching calls. However, the taught sessions have been very professional and have provided me with the resources I need to pass my exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification helps me to perform better in my role as it provides me with the basic understanding and principles of accountancy. This allows me to not only run a report but understand why and how those numbers have been accounted.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I think there were social events at the beginning of the apprenticeship, but since then these have occurred less frequently.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the BBC to a friend because it is a great place to work for. My colleagues are very supportive and the BBC have been very flexible which has allowed me to have a great work-life balance, all whilst juggling family, study, exams and work. It is a very understanding environment to work in, which allows you to grow your career without burning out!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Advice I would give is to give it a go and throw yourself into it. The experience is invaluable and will provide you with many future career opportunities as they encourage progression. The apprenticeship is a lot and can at times be intense, but to gain a reputable qualification and build up experience and connections is definitely worth it!
