Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I supervise and work along side the sterile services technicians decontaminating surgical trays and equipment, packing and sterilising them for theatre and clinics

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Not very much at all, I’ve always loved courses but this is intense and I’ve had a lot of stress at home [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] my tutor does everything she can to help but I’m failing

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’ve learnt a lot but struggled immensely with being a working supervisor and trying to study at the same time especially when we’re short staffed

It’s ok but confusing

How much support do you receive from your employer?

They try to help but I’m the one who is failing with this those if learning. I’m more of a maths/science person all this writing is hard for me

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Lots of help, she really tries hard but I’m not doing great and I’m finding it more stressful than enjoyable 10 stars to my tutor but 3 fur the experience

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Hopefully it’ll make me a better supervisor but at the moment the stress is taking over

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No nothing like that, I work nights so if there’s anything going on at work it’s through the day. My manager does try to include us but nights makes it hard to get together

Yes

Why?

Because my bosses are good and kind it’s me who struggles with it, they do try

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust?

Don’t work nights at sterile services unless you are very strong willed, don’t mind bad language and are assertive. I’m far to soft for the personalities I supervise
