Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
MY apprenticeship is based on rotations every 6 months to a year, in my current role I am apart of the smart manufacturing initiative on site, this is part of GSK's 2030 global improvements. As part of my rotation I utilize Power Bi and Power apps along with other Microsoft applications, in order to take confusing and large quantities of data and make them easy and understandable. (Data democratization)
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I very much so enjoy my program, my course work is interesting and fascinating as majority of it have been completely new to me, it is not stressful and the workload has been very much manageable. At work I have learnt 3 different roles so far which will expand to most of the role in the department, giving me a wide experience of skills and tools in only 4 years.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, my skill set has massively improved, I was straight out of school when I started at GSK and had never had a job before, I would say the majority of my soft skills have been improved or new ones learnt. E.g. talking professional in a presentation, knowing your audience, communication, networking ability. Its not jus the soft skills, having an apprenticeship has allowed me to mold into the cooperate world and learn my company very quickly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
As my apprenticeship is fairly new it is not particularly structured well, especially since I am the first type of apprentices for my site and my department, it is very much a learning curve for the department and me. However, his has allowed for me to have freedom in my choice of rotations and my job role, giving me more comfortability in the workspace.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
on-site, I receive tremendous support my line manager and attitude toward apprentices across my site is very believing and encouraging in the roles, as colleagues have often seen the head start the apprenticeship employees often get and how impactful learning through a company can help and support theses students.
Off-site: this is slightly different, i would say the apprenticeship teams are not very good at supporting students they can often be hard to get a hold of and don't give straight answers nor clarity as to their role capacity. Apprentices have often felt that they are ignored and unimportant due to the lack of clarity.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
My apprenticeship is slightly different because I am a Scottish student going to an English University, my responsibilities and opportunities with university are limited because I am not entitled to do or receive certain things. I personally do not get very much support at all but help can be there when needed, my fellow apprentices do however receive a buddy they can use for help and support, this tends to be a lecturer or a qualified individual in our course field.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The roles and job I carry out are aligned to my course work, this means what modules are the focus or if there is a module on a topic I am not familiar with, I get opportunities to experience this topic within a business setting, allowing me to learn on paper and by hand all at the same time.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is plenty of communities across GSK where there events and opportunities, NxtGen is a community forum for apprentices across the UK for them to get together, socially or to develop between their selves. this means meals, nights out and development days on-site. It really allows the apprentices to get together and become a community in order to support and become friends with one another.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There is plenty of opportunities and it is not just mainly focused on working and school there is different aspects of the job where you get to meet people from all around the world, get to travel across the UK and you can embed yourself into the organisation and learn the ways of working on order to help support you when you finish your apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
Research the company, it shows in interviews and take you time with questions and answers even though you may feel pressure due to the timed questions. also research the role you are applying for, really get to know the role before you are interviewed for the role. Finally the majority of interviews are about your soft skills and not your experiences, using experiences to show the soft skill may be useful but it is not expected to be hour and hours of working experience. It can be as simple as referring to being a group leader in a club or being the one who decides where the friend groups goes out to show initative.
