Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role includes assisting in my office across all areas including, TV, radio and writing online articles for the BBC website. I attend daily meetings and discussions in which we plan the content we produce. My day to day responsibilities vary depending on which department i am working with.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have highly enjoyed my apprenticeship programme. The training aspect has tied in well with the practical elements required by my placement which has enabled me to get involved more at work. As it is a fast-track scheme, at times it has been a very intense course which can mean a heavy workload in terms of deadlines, exams and work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Throughout the apprenticeship so far, I have learned how to produce written content in the form of articles for online. I have also learned how to use multiple forms of software such as "FinalCutPro" and "Dira" to edit Radio and TV packages. I have also received confidence and resilience training.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Starting the year, we recieved a year long schedule of the activities which we would be involved in throughout the year. This included exams, BBC academy training, learning provider training and also our placement. When going away, accommodation is always booked and sent to us at least a week in advance so we have time to prepare our travel plans.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As an apprentice, I receive great support in terms of development opportunities etc. During the placement element, it can often be unstructured meaning that it is up to me to create opportunities for myself to get involved. That being said, if i ever required assistance with this it would be available.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We receive a great level of support from our training provider. Despite learning remotely, training providers maintain a good relationship with our cohort and make time to chat with us throughout the week should we need any help. Each Friday on our study day consists of a full day of contact time in which we receive interactive training which is considerate of our needs.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification relates directly to my job role. Each skill we are taught is something which i am able to put into practice within the office if i am working with that department.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have attended a professional networking event which the BBC academy team informed me about. This was an external event which i found really interesting and helped me to build contacts in the wider industry. I am not involved in any other extra-curricular activities as I do not have time.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The BBC are a great organisation to work for as they are one of the biggest media outlets in the world. The opportunities which are available to you even at an apprentice level are endless if you put yourself out there. The BBC are inclusive and ensure that everybody has access to equal opportunities.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be yourself, don't assume that the BBC what you to speak, act or look a certain way. This isn't the case and uniformity this isn't what they want! They want diversity, meaning a wide range of people from all different background who are able to tell stories which are unique that represent underrepresented groups of people.
