Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Day-to-day I am responsible for quality and testing around site. I also pick up jobs across the site varying from quarrying to kilns, whilst also working on my university studies
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am thriving in the apprenticeship and genuinely enjoy my job. This is due to the variety I have and that I am always doing something new or different which makes the days go so fast.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Self starter has definitely been a key skill- this has enabled me to always keep myself busy and keep developing in my role.
My communication skills has greatly improved as I am able to collaborate effectively in a variety of teams in works

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well structured. We are given an apprentice pathway plan which keeps us on track, whilst also having review meetings with line manager, early careers manager and apprentice coach which all provide any support needed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Countless amounts. Whether it be quarterly reviews with factory manager, monthly chats with line manager, or even a weekly chat with your university cohort- support is always available and easy to access.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Sheffield Hallam show good support and lecturers are happy to help out. However, being on block release, a more proactive approach could be more beneficial as they do not know how we are getting on away from the week which we are at uni.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I am in my second year, and can definitely see my development coming through. The first year I saw as more of a transitional period, but now I am truly able to bring my learnings into the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I have the freedom to visit sites across the UK and meet new people. I am also able to volunteer for STEM events which I really enjoy.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Ibstock to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because I am really happy with my apprenticeship and love how every day has variety.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Ibstock?
Be confident and always be willing to learn. I would be prepared that there may be a transitional period where things may be overwhelming, so I would definitely take advantage of support resources to make sure your head is in the right place.
