Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As an Assistant Project Manager, I support the Portfolio in planning, coordinating, and executing project activities. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring project timelines, tracking budgets, preparing reports, coordinating with stakeholders, managing documentation, and ensuring tasks align with project objectives. I also help identify risks, resolve issues, and facilitate communication among team members to maintain workflow efficiency and project compliance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
While I’m proud to have secured a permanent role as an Assistant Project Manager six months before the end of my apprenticeship—and continued as a staff apprentice—I didn’t enjoy the programme as much as I could have. This was mainly due to placements within the BBC that didn’t align well with the apprenticeship requirements, making it difficult to meet some criteria. Additionally, there were challenges with the programme provider (QA), particularly around the quality of teaching and all the learning being remote. However, during my final-year I was able to secure additional support from the safeguarding and ACE team who i cannot thank enough as well as in placement with Children in Need, I was able to excel, fully engage with my learning, and ultimately secure my current role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have developed several key skills, including enhanced project planning and coordination, improved proficiency in project management software (e.g., Monday.com), and stronger communication and stakeholder management abilities. I’ve also deepened my understanding of risk management and reporting through hands-on experience.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Overall, the programme is well-structured and provides a clear framework for academic learning. The learning is mapped out over the course of the apprenticeship, with clear milestones and regular progress reviews to keep everything on track. Modules are scheduled in a logical order, building up core knowledge before moving into more strategic and leadership-focused areas.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Overall, I felt well supported by my employer throughout the apprenticeship. That said, there were frequent changes in apprenticeship managers and line managers due to people leaving etc. Due to the rotational nature of the programme, with placements changing every six months; this also meant a change in placement managers. While some level of change is expected in a rotational scheme, the additional transitions in management roles at times made continuity and support more challenging.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I received a strong level of support from my training provider throughout the qualification. During a difficult bereavement, I was offered additional help through a safeguarding officer and I also received ongoing support tailored to my disabilities particularly in my final year, which was the changing point in the programme. I was given more detailed feedback, which made a real difference in helping me meet the required standards.
Regular check-ins, structured feedback, and clear assignment guidance have kept me on track. The learning materials are accessible, and tutors have been approachable and helpful whenever I’ve needed clarification.
While there were occasional challenges in aligning assignment requirements with real-world workplace examples, the overall support has been consistent and has helped me progress with confidence throughout the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification was particularly helpful while I was completing it, especially when the teaching aligned with my role and the timing of the modules. It allowed me to deepen my understanding of wider business objectives and develop knowledge that I could apply directly in the workplace. However, now that the qualification is complete, it’s not something I refer back to on a daily basis. While it gave me a solid foundation, much of my current learning now comes through hands-on experience and continued development in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes - however i do not get involved.
