Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My work is both interesting and varied. I work in the data science field, consulting on projects and developing applications for managing datasets. My work involves the use of software such as Python, Power Platforms and Excel. When I am not developing applications, I am communicating with various people around projects within the business.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the program. I work with great people who are always very friendly and open to help if I have any issues. The work that I do is varied and interesting, developing my skills and experiences. When I am not doing work within Arcadis, I am completing university work with Keele University. This is also valuable and interesting, developing skills in key areas that I can take into the business.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a large number of skills during my time at Arcadis. I have greatly developed my Python skills, using it to explore data and create machine learning models. I have also learnt to use a large quantity of the Power Platforms including Power BI to present information from data outputs and Power Apps to create apps to use within the business or on projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is a clear structure to the program that you can feel confident about. Information that you need is given to you clearly and with enough time to get prepared if anything is required. From the start of your apprenticeship, you feel like you know what you are working towards and the goals that you would like to achieve. This is the same at both Arcadis and at university.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive ample support from almost everyone within the business and at university. If there is ever an issue or parts of a project that I do not understand, people are very understanding and try their best to help. I also have regular check-ins with both the university and my line manager to see how things are progressing and to highlight any problems. I also feel like if there are any problems, no matter how small, people in the business try their best to resolve them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive quite a lot of support with my training provider. Being online, it can be difficult to voice any problems that you may be having. However, my training provider always responds promptly to any concerns. They also provide the option of one to one meetings or calls to discuss any problems with work or any areas that you may not understand. When I am on campus for my residential week, I have regular meetings with my supervisor to also ask about any concerns or how work is progressing so any issues can be pointed in the right direction.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
With my role being involving large aspects of data and data handling, my qualification definitely helps develop my skills for my role. The aspects that I learn in my modules at university have a direct correlation with the work that I conduct at Arcadis. One example this year is Python, spending the university year developing my skills with Python in data analysis and machine learning. This has greatly helped in the Python projects or tasks that I may work on at Arcadis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a lot of activities to get involved in at work. Every month, my office to a social activities evening where we go and do something and meet with other people within the Arcadis business. This is a great way to get to know people whilst doing something fun. Alongside this, we have regular groups that have calls fortnightly around skills development which can really help with development in certain aspects, but also in networking with people within the similar field at Arcadis.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arcadis to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Arcadis is a fantastic place to work, with friendly colleagues who are always keen to help with any problems that you may have. The work is varied and interesting, helping develop my skills greatly. I also receive ample time to complete any university work and stay on track academically. This overall makes Arcadis a great place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arcadis?
Make sure that you do some research into the business, seeing what values they hold and if you have experience contributing towards those values. When applying, I would say to be confident, showing that you can work as part of a team, providing opinions whilst listening and understanding other peoples. I would also look into past work that Arcadis has done and see what you find interesting or inspiring. This can help lead your application and show interest in the business.
