Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
My first placement was in the BBC Bitesize Schools tour team which is an outreach programme which involves a panel and a presenter traveling to school across the UK to discuss careers. I was a researcher and was responsible for finding schools to visit and finding panelist to talk to the students in the schools. I then had to do background checks on the panelist we chose. I went on tour to Kent for a week to see what my work in the office was contributing too and It was really eye opening and I had the best week. I closely shadowed the assistant producer as well as supporting the AV team.
My second placement was in the careers team. I tried a bit of everything in this department. I wrote articles for the Bitesize website, I edited videos and photoshopped Images and posters for both the website and social media and I even did a bit of presenting for some of the videos.
My third placement was on Other Side of the Story. during my time here I wrote more articles, did more editing and made quizzes about fake news for the website.
My current placement is with the YouTube and Social team and I love it. I get to come up with ideas for content on Instagram and TikTok as well as lots of editing.
The BBC has also given me many opportunities outside of children's and education through shadowing. I have shadowed at BBC Radio Manchester, which inspired me so much that I now volunteer at a local radio station where I present and produce my own show every Tuesday. I have shadowed in BBC sport and in the Cebeebies house/CBBC HQ where i got to shadow the Director for the live 15 year anniversary of Hacker and Dodge.
I have also had the opportunity to work as a talent runner for Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton from morning live at Comic Relief 2025.

don't be scared to ask questions. Your learning.
And if you want an opportunity just ask the worst thing someone can say is No. If you don't ask you will never know.
