Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Operations manager. I am responsible for certain mail centres where i have to manage inward and outward capacity, ensuring optimisation is high, and dealing with issues relating to bulk outs or failed services. I also have to plan additional services around busy periods like Christmas or when there are high volumes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy the program due to the team I am working in. I get to interact with a huge variety of people from all over the business. I am always busy and I see new requests and challenges every day. I like having big responsibilities within my role, even though this was daunting at first.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have gained a much better understanding of excel. My confidence has grown massively, where before I was terrified of presentations and public speaking but it has become much easier. I have learnt lots about the business and how it all works as well as various aspects within my job role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I have a mentor to help me whenever I need it. I have frequent 1-2-1 catch ups with my line manager. I have a set of common tasks that are required of me, as well as having Fridays designated for my degree work so that I can ensure I stay on track.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive check ups from senior managers, above my line manger about whether I am enjoying my role. I receive very frequent 1-2-1s with my line manager, where I can express any concerns necessary. I also have a mentor who I speak to on a daily basis that helps me with anything i am not sure on. I receive huge amounts of support that have really helped my experience at Royal Mail.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive monthly 1-2-1s and quarterly review meetings from my training provider mentor. I also receive feedback on all the work I submit and are given resources to help us with the work. We have online workshops in every module, where we are supported with the content and we can ask any questions we need.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I have learnt much useful information that i have taken with me. For example, how to present well, how to present data, how to use data, employee wellbeing, and management and leadership techniques. I can use all these skills to help me grow in my role as they are all very relevant to what I am doing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I have not experienced an extra-curricular activities, however I have attended some networking events with the other apprentices on my course and even apprentices doing different courses where we have had the change to meet up and talk about our experiences in the business so for and discuss what we are doing.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Royal Mail Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Royal Mail care about their employees and want to see them do well. There are so many opportunities for growth within the company and employees are supported throughout this. I have had nothing but good experiences with other employees, and I have noticed that a huge amount of employees have been in the business for years, which speaks for itself. You will not get the benefits and support in other companies like you do at Royal Mail.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Royal Mail Group?
Royal Mail is a huge company and you are not confined to one area. There is so much to learn and see and people around you will support you hugely. It is key to have a basic understanding of the company and what they stand for when applying, but there is so much you won't know. Make it clear you want to learn.
