Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Learning Development (L&D) trainer, my role involves delivering classroom and on-the-job training sessions for new hires and existing associates. I'm responsible for developing and maintaining training content, providing performance support through coaching and mentoring, and administering training records. My day-to-day tasks include conducting training sessions, updating materials, collaborating with operations teams, emphasizing safety procedures, and supporting new initiatives. I also play a crucial role in continuous improvement by gathering feedback, analyzing training effectiveness, and staying updated on L&D best practices. My focus is on developing Amazon associates, supporting their career growth, and ensuring training aligns with business objectives to maintain Amazon's customer-centric culture.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm thoroughly enjoying my CMDA programme. The blend of academic learning and practical application in my role at Amazon has been incredibly rewarding. I find the coursework challenging yet engaging, especially as I can immediately apply new concepts to my work in Learning Development. The programme has opened my eyes to new perspectives on management and leadership, which I'm eager to implement. I particularly appreciate the opportunity to network with fellow apprentices and learn from their experiences. While balancing work, study, and personal life can be demanding, the sense of accomplishment I feel when successfully applying new skills makes it all worthwhile. The support from both Amazon and the academic institution has been excellent, making this learning journey enjoyable and fulfilling. Overall, I'm excited about how this programme is shaping my professional growth and future career prospects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've gained valuable new skills in management theory, business operations, and leadership principles. I've also significantly developed my existing abilities in communication, problem-solving, time management, teamwork, and technology use. I'm now more adept at balancing work, study, and personal commitments while applying my learning directly to my role in Learning Development. I've strengthened my understanding of Amazon's processes and culture, which has enhanced my effectiveness as a trainer. This journey of continuous learning has been challenging but rewarding, and I'm excited to keep growing and applying these skills in my daily work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Overall, the apprenticeship programme with Amazon is well-organised and structured. From the beginning, we were given a clear induction and overview of what to expect throughout the duration of the programme. There is a clear timeline of key learning modules, assessments, and development checkpoints, which helps with planning and staying on track.
We have access to a range of learning resources through the apprenticeship portal, regular sessions with our skills coach, and support from both our line managers and mentors. The programme includes a good balance of on-the-job learning and off-the-job training, with structured time allocated for skills development and project work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer throughout the apprenticeship. My manager is approachable and understands the importance of balancing my day-to-day responsibilities with my apprenticeship commitments. I’m given protected time during the week to complete off-the-job training, and this is respected across the team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The support from my training provider has been consistent and helpful throughout the apprenticeship. I have regular one-to-one sessions with my skills coach, where we review progress, set goals, and get feedback on assignments or projects. These sessions help keep me focused and ensure I understand what’s expected at each stage of the qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that the qualification has a positive impact on my performance in my role. The content is closely aligned with real workplace scenarios, which means I can apply what I’m learning directly to my day-to-day tasks. For example, modules on communication, stakeholder engagement, and time management have helped me work more effectively with my team and manage responsibilities more efficiently.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are several extra-curricular activities available. At Amazon, we have social events, affinity group meetups, and professional networking opportunities through internal programs. There are also wellbeing initiatives, step challenges, and sometimes site-specific events or charity fundraisers. These activities are a great way to meet colleagues from different teams and build connections outside of daily work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I’d recommend it because Amazon gives you real opportunities to learn and grow. The apprenticeship isn’t just about studying, it’s hands-on, with real responsibilities and support every step of the way. You gain valuable experience, work with skilled teams, and build skills that are useful in any career. Plus, there’s a strong focus on development and progression, which makes it a great place to start or build your future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
Be prepared to show how you align with Amazon’s Leadership Principles—they're a big part of the culture and hiring process. Use real examples in your application and interviews to show how you've taken ownership, solved problems, or worked as part of a team. Also, don’t be afraid to highlight your willingness to learn—that’s just as important as experience. Finally, stay organised, ask questions, and be open to feedback—it shows you're engaged and ready to grow.
