Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a civil engineer apprentice, this involves setting out, checking over works completed and issuing permits. At the moment I have been given an area with another engineer which we watch over and have to look ahead and make sure that the permits are in place for them to carry on working so that there is no delays to the project. I am very much enjoying the responsibility and the role that I have.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme has been very enjoyable, we have a fantastic team that has really benefited my development. Balfour beatty has also been a great company to work for, supplying me with all the equipment I need and getting me booked onto any courses I need to aid my learning. I am thoroughly enjoying the role and all the responsibility that comes with it.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of skills such as using the GPS to record points and track data, CAT and GENNY to scan for underground services and then the tools on the computer such as CAD, site scan and openspace

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is very well structured with the early careers programme that balfour beatty offers. I am yet to start the university side of things as this is not until september but the look ahead plan is in place allowing me plenty of time to manage my course
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Balfour Beatty have been very helpful through out and give great support. From all the training courses I get booked onto and days off for study leave if needed in the future
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have not yet started anything with my training provider as this is not until i start with them in september
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am yet to start this side of it until september
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is lots to get involved with such as volunteering, mental health walks and social events to help meet the team. There is also lots of networking events that my co workers have been sent on that I will receive as the course goes on

Why?
It is a company that I am proud to work for, it is a major company offering lots of exciting projects to be apart of and has health and safety at the forefront of everything we do which is a great place to be in. They also offer so much extra to make sure your up to speed and give you the best chance of success
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
If you get the opportunity 100% go for it as you wont regret it and it'll be so beneficial to you and your learning so just give it a shot. If your passionate that will be recognised and in turn you'll get so much more out
