To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Setting out in civil engineering can be highly enjoyable, offering a mix of outdoor work, hands-on tasks, and problem-solving. It’s rewarding to see designs come to life on-site. The role provides variety, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment as you contribute directly to building roads and shaping infrastructure.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Skills gained in setting out civil engineering include surveying, using GPS and total stations, interpreting technical drawings, and calculating coordinates and levels. You'll also develop accuracy, attention to detail, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills. Understanding construction processes, health and safety regulations, and site management are also key parts of the role.

Through my experience with balfour beatty there are regular extra curricular activities such as multiple nights out throughout the year. we have also undergone charity events such as the yorkshire three peaks and completed tough mudder in manchester. this was within the space of 3 years.
