My job requires me to ensure the machine is well maintained and working correctly. Any issue with the machine must be resolved immediately in order to carry on with production. Routined check ups to be carried out on equipment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my job when there is a big job on. I enjoy being hands on and being allowed to participate and engaging my brain in the fault finding. However the training I have been receiving could potentially improve a lot but it is adequate for what I’m what I am currently doing.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My fault finding skills for electrical and mechanical work had increased drastically since joining. Understanding of the equipment and how it should operate correct. I have also improved on my communication and teamwork skills as I have been working in a team in majority of my tasks.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Before starting shifts the apprenticeship was quite unorganised at times with what is expected of me and what I should be doing. This had changed since starting shifts. I have clear expectations of what I should be doing and undergo training from my colleagues. I have learnt more fault finding techniques and what to expect.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employers are generally very supportive. Each one of them offer me guidance and helps improve my skill set. They trust me enough with projects to carry out for the improvement of our department and they are easily approachable.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider overall are very good. However there are a few things I believe are not beneficial for my certain job role which they have me to do. The training provider have taught me a lot of things and have ultimately improved my mindset as an engineer.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

In order to achieve my qualification a lot of teaching has been done. All this teaching has helped me learn why certain faults can occur and what could be the cause of them. The qualifications has improved on my mindset as an engineer. My understanding of mechanical and electrical principles has greatly increased due to this qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Each shift tends to have a Christmas due unless they are in work. HR department likes to set activities and team building exercises at work throughout the year.

Would you recommend Premier Foods to a friend?

Why?
Premier foods are quite good as an apprenticeship once starting shifts. They are also very supportive and helpful. I believe since starting premier foods my social skills as well as my working skills have drastically improved. I enjoy my time working there as I’m constantly engaged.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Premier Foods?
There is a lot of learning to do when entering the engineering industry. Be prepared to make certain sacrifices. At first it can be quite scary as you don’t know or understand much but it will all start to make sense after spending some time learning.
