Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
Work alongside engineers such as mechanical and electrical engineers by doing breakdowns and PPMs also. We also gain experience by fabricating as well as using different tools and machinery. We also get involved by learning the machinery that is at the plant so we know how to fix what’s wrong with the machinery.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
As a person who loves being hands on I do love this job when I get to help the engineers as well as make stuff that will help the factory improve. The engineers do there but also buy making me feel welcome in my role as an apprentice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
At the beginning of our apprenticeship I learnt barely anything at site and have now gained experience by completing ppms and projects on site to improve the site as a whole as well as gain experience in breakdowns also.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Not very organised from my experience as when I first started there was no plan in place at all and there still isn’t one to this day the only structure I have is my shift pattern and the college times.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
From my employer I receive not much support at all it’s the engineers that give me support while at the factory, there isn’t much communication from my employer as well as managers about my progress in my role as an apprentice.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
At Make UK I receive good support from them as at the end of each assignment we sit down one to one with our tutor and they will discuss what grades I have achieved as well as where I can improve also.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I have just really been able to start using the experience I gained from my level 2 as well as some drawing aspects I have learnt in my level 3 assignments.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
I have applied for a fishing tournament through Ibstock other than that there isn’t much else.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Ibstock to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would say im in the middle of yes and no due to my experience so far having to keep onto management about the poor development opportunities i have had but would also say yes due to it could be a brilliant apprenticeship if the site there at does appreciate the opportunity to pass on their skills to the apprentice.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Ibstock?
if you feel like you are not getting what you want out of this apprenticeship just speak up as you make this opportunity yours and don't be afraid to keep on at people if you want something or want to learn also.
