Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Use technical drawings to manufacture control panels and cubicles for the energy and nuclear sectors. I interact with colleagues who are sometimes on the same job as me, or project managers/engineers to talk about the specific project being worked on.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have very much enjoyed my programme so far as it has begun to teach me the skills required to build a career in the electrical engineering sector. I have made made great relationships with colleagues that has also helped me settle in to the workplace.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I was completely new to the electrical engineering industry so all the skills I have learnt are new ones. I have learnt basic tooling skills to help me complete my daily tasks, as well as more complex skills such as crimping, reading drawings and wiring.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured well with 4 days at work and 1 day at college. I have regular meetings with my assessor to track my progress as we work towards the EPA.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer has been very supportive since I started the programme in September, and have always helped me with any issues I have had. There is always someone happy to help if I encounter a problem that I am not sure how to solve.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My training provider has been on hand to support me when I have had a college work related issue. The tutors are helpful and will always ensure I know what I am doing during college assignments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
While the content of my college course is not always entirely relevant to my daily role, I have developed plenty of practical skills as a result of the practical assessments at college. These skills are well transferable into my daily role which is a bonus.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
My workplace has a number of networking groups that are available to join where ideas are spoken about and passed on to the directors. There are also social activities such as balls, meals and Christmas parties that every employee is invited to.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Capula to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Capula have been very supportive during my first year as an apprentice, especially considering I had no prior experience of the industry when I started. They have helped me to develop the basic skills required for me to progress through my course and beyond.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capula?
Definitely give it a go and see where it takes you as upon the completion of your first apprenticeship, you may get the opportunity to sit down and see if there is another part of the business you would like to learn more about.
