Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work with teams across the organisation to set standards for collecting, entering, and governing data, ensuring accuracy from the start. When I started my apprenticeship I was working as an Information Governance Lead and changed roles to become our Data Quality Manager.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed the work despite some challenging periods. I was also starting a new role which was very well supported by our employment co-ordinator, course mentor and manager. This made balancing the two possible and helped me complete the course.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The apprenticeship helped me develop my report writing and presentation skills. It also gave me the opportunity to revisit areas of data protection law that I had not focused on for some time.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The course was well organised and I have seen the support package evolve. I had catch ups with our employment co-ordinator who made sure I had the support I needed throughout.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

WCHG has been great and gave me one day per week to focus on study. I was able to use this time flexibly while starting a new role which meant I had total control over when I would be studying. My manager was very supportive too and gave me the support I needed.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I had access to a learning management system, coaching catch ups and in depth workshops. The workshops were very good and as good as any data protection content I've attended while working in Information Governance. The support side was excellent, particularly my coach.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My study has definitely help me perform better in my role as I was able to tailor my project towards my new role, while including the new knowledge and improved skills from the course. It also helped manage priorities and maintain a high standard of work in the process.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes we seasonal events like our summer social and regular opportunities to meet customers. We also have mentoring opportunities available so you can be a mentor or mentee. We've had sports socials too and now have a weekly mental health walk which is part of our mental health first aid group. There are plenty of groups to get involved in like this if there are things you are passionate about.
