Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I act as a first point of contact by managing the HR inboxes, responding to day to day queries from employees, and external organisations. My role involves processing various administrative tasks, such as visitor and access agreements, as well as preparing and updating employee contracts. I also assist with onboarding processes for new employees, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and filed accurately. I regularly liaise with line managers, head of operations, and different departments to address any HR related queries.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my apprenticeship at the University! It has a great balance of theory and practical meaning that I will gain my CIPD qualification whilst also being able to develop a good understanding of HR policies and processes. It has helped me to progress both personally and professionally.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My role is varied and I am exposed to many different task and challenges - the main skills that I have developed on is communication and initiative. I have become more adaptive to different situations, and learnt how to prioritise my workload effectively to ensure everything is complete in an accurate and timely manner.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have only been with the University a couple of months but I have learnt so much in such a small period of time and I put this down to how organised my team have been! They help me to set goals and work towards them ensuring I am learning a wide range of tasks and building my skills to perform as HR professional. My team take a proactive approach to ensure I am gaining a well rounded knowledge of HR. My college provider are also extremely organised, outlining the college year as early as they can to show you how you will learn each module.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer are super supportive. I have weekly 1:1s with my line manager to catch up on how I am feeling in my role, address any concerns or worries, outline what skills and goals I can work towards next, discuss workload and any updates etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My qualification is taught by face to face learning which has been great because any concerns or questions can be addressed in class. I have 1:1s every three weeks with my tutor to discuss my progress and any concerns, I receive detailed feedback on my assignments so I know what to work on, and I always receive speedy responses from my tutor when asking questions outside of class.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification provides a really interesting and detailed background of Human Resources. It allows me to apply my theory work to real life examples in the workplace. The assignments help me to build on my communication and writing ability which coincides with performing my day to day activities in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The University has an 'Apprenticeship Ambassador Scheme' where you can take part in any networking events and visit schools/career fairs to talk about your apprenticeship, apprenticeship life at the University, and what the University ahs to offer. There are apprentice socials, and in my department I also get the opportunity to attend professional events.

Why?
I have really enjoyed my time at the University so far - the college course has been super insightful and I am learning a lot within my role in my department. My team are lovely and super supportive, and it's great to have other apprentices to talk to and connect with at the University. It's brilliant way to kickstart your career/career change.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to University of Oxford?
Research into a career that you think you would enjoy before applying. It is so important to enjoy your work! During the interview process, be yourself and have confidence in yourself!
