Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Marketing assistant within the Radox brand team:
- Managing the social accounts
- Supporting with 360 marketing campaigns
- Reporting monthly on the brands performance
- Manging the budget
- Rolling out new products into market
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy it but very much struggle with time management in terms of a very busy work schedule alongside a degree & running my own business. I often don't feel like I can take time to work on my uni work during working hours due to tight deadlines within the business & heavy workloads

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes!
- Proficiency using Excel
- The start to finish process of a nationwide marketing campaign
- How brands work with agencies
- How to pull & analyse share data

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There seems to be a lack of communication between my employer and university. There are often unclear deadlines and constant changes to what is expected from us/ what support we have available. When we as apprentices already have a very tight schedule, a well organised programme is really important as we always need to be planning several steps ahead
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My direct line manager is very supportive and I can see her also being supportive when it comes to rolling off the scheme. With regards to the sider company (HR) and university, there have been contradictory answers regarding what happens when we reach gateway, when we can start applying for jobs, when our contract ends etc...
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
A few of my lecturers have been great in providing extra support towards helping me complete my assignment but most don't go above and beyond. A prime example is we have an assignment due on the 30th April and the cut off for having our work read through was the 8th April. We were only provided with a weeks notice that this would be the situation so I hadn't made a sufficient dent in the assignment to actually ask for support/ my lecturer to read through.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It is great when I see synergies between the modules I'm studying and the work I do. The 'Managing Products & Brands' module was a great example of this however I'd say my work helped me to do better in the uni assignment rather than the other way around.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
This is definitely improving within our direct team but as a company we have the opportunity to take part in an annual charity walk and attend/ play in a company charity football match

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have been fortunate enough to be placed in two fantastic teams and surround by some very experience colleagues, who I have learnt a lot from. I would however always give the precaution that it isn't easy, comes with a lot of stress and late nights and weekends of studying.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
- Take every opportunity that get's thrown at you, even if it does mean going out of your way to do something
- If there is a task you want to get involved with in your team, just ask! The likelihood is your colleague will be grateful for your support and it's a great learning op
- Start your uni assignments as soon as you receive the brief
