Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role includes working in the protection team and collaborating with others to produce the best solution for a project.
- Using the correct AutoCAD practises to produce project specific schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and general arrangement drawings for the customer and the production team.
- other work tasks can include, liaising with the different departments in the company, checking over other peoples work and making any physical wiring adjustments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme as there is a lot of diversity with the tasks that I do so it is rare that I get bored on a project, as well as this, we have numerous projects that usually take a few months each to complete so the work is always different and we are always innovating.
As I progress further in my apprenticeship I am starting to gain more responsibility within my team such as helping to mentor the new intake of apprentices and offer any support that I can whether it is work related or not.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have vastly enhanced my electrical circuit theory knowledge, general understanding of protection systems and IED's as well as the bigger picture of how my schematic diagrams can become physical and how our solution can integrate into the existing substation control systems. As well as developing life skills such as punctuality and communication.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is structured very well. my lecturers are always available to contact and they are very helpful. I have many points of contact between Capula and the University. I have a review every 10 weeks with my work based education officer where my workplace mentor learning and development advisor must be present, I have monthly catchups with my point of contact at the university and a separate meeting with my workplace mentor to talk about my studies. although I have these meetings set up every month, I know that I can contact them at any point and they will offer there help.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have lots of contacts to talk to regarding my apprentices, whether that be the allocated person or ex-apprentices or my manager. Everybody is willing to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Staffordshire University have provided me with the right people to help me on my course. I know that I can go to my lecturer, work based education officer or university mentor about anything and they will be willing to help me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
So far it has helped me gain an understanding of what the schematic diagrams that i am drawing actually mean. as we cover more components, more theories and go into more detail this will help me flourish within the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
there are quarterly networking events for our business unit, i partake in volunteering days that help bond the team as well as other one off events such as football tournaments. outside of work, some of the apprentices and engineers at Capula also play in a 7- a-side friendly game.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capula?
Getting a degree apprenticeship here is not all about the getting the grades, life skills and other experiences are arguably more important on your CV.
