Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Providing corporate reception services, hospitality (fine dining, corporate catering) to one of the Big Four companies. We provide bespoke guest experiences based upon the client's needs which changes daily.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I absolutely love the programme and have learned and visited so many places I wouldn't have imagined. I have thoroughly enjoyed our supply chain visits which have been incredibly insightful. I have also made connections with many people across the business some resulting in lasting friendships and also contacts for future work prospects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned so many new skills: finance, improved IT knowledge, how businesses operate, industry knowledge, coaching and mentoring, DISC profiling, emotional intelligence skills, learned how the business fits into the wider industry and much more!

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It's brilliant. I have monthly sessions with my trainer, quarterly meetings with my trainer and manager, plus monthly in-person sessions with my cohort. The BUD software programme is well maintained and I can log all my training and find modules that need to be completed. My trainer is prompt with responses to any questions/queries I have.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have a very busy role and our regional team has faced a lot of challenges which hasn't always made it easy for me to complete work on the job. Some members of staff do not believe that I should be dedicating 20% of my workweek to this apprenticeship and I have been challenged about this in the past. My new manager is much more understanding and the questioning from other members of the team have ceased. I however still don't feel that I get enough time or support with my learning on the job - although as stated previously, we have been through a lot of change and upheaval.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My trainer is my cheerleader and she is amazing. If I ever need support or guidance, she is always there and responds within 24-48hrs which is fantastic. She only wants the best for me and to see me achieve. I couldn't ask for more.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I understand so much more about the business now and I'm not afraid to put my suggestions/ideas forward. I can help new starters and improve my own working practices.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No, because we are from all over the country. We love our supply chain visits and classroom sessions as it is our only chance to socialise. However, we have still built great relationships and help one another through the course.

Yes
Why?
Compass invest in their employees and genuinely want to do so. I enjoy my work, I am always paid on time, if I have any problems, there is always someone to talk to who knows their stuff. I love their social value initiatives and do feel they genuinely want to improve the communities they operate in.
