Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I manage 3 projects and work on 2 larger projects alongside 2 senior PM's with significant experience so can guide me effectively
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Enjoy the work aspect to a large extent, however the university aspect could be improved

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes - finance management, budgeting, weekly reporting, Communication, People management

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The CGI part of the apprenticeship makes me feel well supported but the university are sometimes disorganised and the choice of course is highly limited and not the best if you are looking for a completely non-technical course
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is highly supportive, with both the early careers team and my manager and PM team making sure I am able to manage my day-to-day tasks and projects effectively
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Buckinghamshire New University are regularly disorganised and offer limited support
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I don't think that the degree relates to my role very much, with only one module relating to business specific functions, that module being 'project management'.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The sports and social club is great to bring people from all over the company together and is very fun to meet like minded people. It also allows you to network with more senior members of the business.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The apprenticeship scheme means you have no uni debt, get a head start in the professional world and are able to progress at a significantly faster rate than people the same age as yourself.
The work-life balance is also pretty good, with the early careers team encouraging you to not work over your allocated hours of 9:00 - 5:30 PM.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
1. Know the business, its clients and culture/values
2. Make sure to be human and not put on an act for the interviews / assessment centres
3. Use the STAR method in interviews
