Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Currently I work within the Campaigns team. My role consists of working on campaigns, going on location to film, working out props, revising scripts, and editing videos. However I have just started this placement. Before this I was working within commissioning, where I watched content, sat in on pitches, researched influencers and discussed what we might be looking to air on CBBC.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have unfortunately not connected with the first placement, however I have moved over to campaigns and this seems much more interesting an creative. I am very excited to get stuck into filming, getting on location, and generally being more creative.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
I developed my presenting skills through watching pitches and my research skills through researching different shows across different platforms.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Unfortunately there has been issues with organisation. One of our trainers at Bauer left due to safeguarding reasons, and I found it quite difficult to navigate through the apprenticeship, with chasing constantly for tasks. I feel as though however the campaigns placement is going to be much more organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I do feel as though I have received lots of support, I had some difficult times through the last 6 months, and everyone has been brilliantly understanding, and has done all they can to ensure I have been happy and well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have received plenty of support, however unfortunately my usual trainer has had to leave due to safeguarding issues. This has definitely rocked the boat, and left some of us feeling unsure about what is to come. I hope that whoever we have next, shows the continuous support that the previous trainer did.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I personally dont feel it has a huge impact. Unfortunately it sometimes feels as though we are learning basic human skills, rather than skills specific to the production role. There are however some great areas, such as audio and camera training, which feels highly beneficial to my role in production.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are always events going on at work which help us socialise, network, and get comfortable. Things such as after work drinks and meals really benefit us.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the bbc to a friend due to their support, flexibility, and everyone here wants you to succeed. It is wonderful seeing the support I get, and how welcome everyone has been. I feel as though I still have so much to learn, and I m thankful to have just started a placement which I can really see myself thriving in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
My biggest advice is to just be yourself. It is a scary process, and the nerves definitely take over, especially in the last process of interviewing. My advice is to stay calm, and don't be so robotic... think outside of the box! I applied 3 times before getting the offer, so don't give up! When it comes to the pitch in the final stage of interviewing, be as creative as possible, whether it's a dance, a song, a real time science experiment... just go crazy! Have fun with it, and remember everyone wants you to succeed, so just be yourself.
