Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I sat in two departments of my choosing over the course of the scheme. In both departments I sat with a supervisor who allocated me legal tasks from their own caseload. The scheme also features lots of presentations, interactive sessions and social events.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The firm did a great job at hosting presentations and interactive sessions which allowed me to explore all the major aspects of the business. They also held multiple sessions on the trainee experience and assigned me to a trainee buddy to guide me through the scheme.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed many of the core skills needed by trainee lawyers - drafting contracts and other legal documents, legal research and drafting correspondence to clients. I felt like I assumed a lot of responsibility over just two weeks which encouraged me to be proactive, although I was always supported when I had questions. Working in a business environment also encouraged me to think commercially about the firm and how it interacts with its clients.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was really friendly and everyone was approachable and willing to answer my questions. The office was quite quiet some days but the firm are encouraging more staff to go back to the office post-covid.

The vacation scheme was a highly enjoyable experience. I felt intellectually challenged while still being supported and guided through the work.

I felt like the firm really valued my individuality, so stress this on your application form, highlighting what makes you unique. Secondly, practice the psychometric tests as they get a lot easier with practice.
