Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Rotated between two departments over the four weeks. Working on real client matters from day one - tasks included legal drafting, legal research, preparing filings for CRO and CBI, filing, scanning, printing and attending client meetings. A group pitch presentation to the partners. There were also a number of virtual sessions organised to provide further insights to the firm and its technologies - D&I, Pro Bono, AI. There were also a number of socials organised.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I think the supervisors were good at explaining their career journeys and progression, even if that wasn't specifically with Simmons & Simmons. We also had a Q&A panel with the current trainees which was useful to hear about their journeys as some of them had previously worked in the firm before getting a trainee position. I do also feel working in the firm you got to see first hand the contributions of all team members.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I was impressed by the company culture and general atmosphere. I read before I went in that there was no hierarchy but I did really feel this when I was working in the firm. The open plan also creates a more inviting and less intimidating atmosphere, I felt I was more free to ask questions and the layout of the canteen meant I was often interacting with people who were not on my team. I will say everyone was very open and I felt there was an opportunity to ask questions about their career development and a gain insights.

I really enjoyed the insight, I feel it is quite unique to get this at such an early stage of my career and feel like it is something that you can only get once you have your foot inside the door and are working in the firm.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Simmons & Simmons LLP
Be yourself, be prepared for the assessment centre - it is a long - take the breaks when you are given them. I also wouldn't think too deeply once you have completed the centre, it seemed to be a general theme among my cohort of interns that we found it hard to judge how the assessment had gone so I wouldn't overthink anything and just let things fall into place.
