Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Working in tax compliance and advisory for corporate tax matters. Completing computations, analysis of tax sensitive items, preparing sensitive tax documents for bespoke services involving tax matters, such as M&A, creative taxes, transfer pricing etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the day-to-day work, especially the advisory work as there are many different areas in which this can occur in. It keeps the job interesting and there are always new things to learn/do. In terms of the apprenticeship side, it enhances the experience by giving us a professional qualification and helps with time management and learning outside of our direct area

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Developed excel and word proficiency, enhanced existing soft skills including leadership, project management, time management. Also developed knowledge of business and tax-specific software for analysis of tax matters in compliance with HMRC

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well organised, the talent team are very on top of everything and keep the programme running smoothly. They are always on hand to answer questions and provide assistance when needed, and they keep us in the loop if there are any updates to our timetables or programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Employer provides us with plenty of time to study and the other staff are very understanding and helpful around our study expectations. They are on hand to advise us on how best to proceed, having experienced the same things as we are, and provide support when requested.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
BPP provide taught courses which, for the most part, have been very helpful. This of course varies by the lecturer and style. BPP also offer internal assessments at intervals, which help us to keep on top of revision and measure our understanding and progress in the run-up to exams. This is particularly helpful at identifying weaker areas and helping us to understand where to direct our revision.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Currently, a lot of what we have studied isn't directly relevant to tax, but the accounting topics and principles of tax have been useful to help understand the financial statements, which we often refer to when working through tax issues. The other topics have been less relevant, but I found it enjoyable nonetheless, and could see how it could be applied to other financial practice roles
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are semi-regular team and business wide socials to get involved in as well as the summer ball and Christmas dinner. Otherwise, individually arranged social events are fairly common, and everyone is great to talk to.
