Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Preparing a basic set of unincorporated or company accounts with reference to the relevant Financial Reporting Standards/Statement of Recommended Practice and legal requirements.
Working with a team to audit various types of companies financial statements.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
From the very beginning, you'll engage directly with clients, learning about their businesses and grasping their challenges. You'll be empowered to take ownership early and gain exposure to every facet of the role. Your experience will be diverse—sometimes handling projects that span just a few days, other times ones that last several weeks. No matter the task, you'll consistently make a meaningful impact on our clients’ businesses.

New skills learnt include analysing variances in data.
I have developed my communication skills due to constantly working with a team that varies depending on the jobs I am on and constant client relations.
Attention to detail is a key skill in auditing, which over the course of my placement, I have further developed to ensure all Financial Statements are fair and true.

Alongside gaining a wide range of experience and learning through hands-on work, you’ll participate in a comprehensive Induction and receive targeted training. Throughout your placement, you’ll be supported by a Buddy, a Training Manager, and a dedicated Early Talent Team.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Moore Kingston Smith offers a variety of social activities, providing a great opportunity to connect with colleagues and build relationships across the firm. The firm prioritises mental health and ensures workload isn't too stressful. For an accounting and audit firm MKS encourages workers to have a good work life balance.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I greatly valued my placement at Moore Kingston Smith and found it to be both professionally rewarding and personally enriching. The opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals allowed me to develop my technical skills, gain practical insight into the industry, and contribute meaningfully to client work. In addition, the firm’s wide range of social activities—including the annual charity day, sporting events and clubs, informal team gatherings, and the summer ball helped foster a welcoming and collaborative environment, making it easy to build strong relationships with colleagues across the firm
