Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work as a Cyber Security Engineer, our typical customers are petrochemical companies so each day can be quite different. Some days we are located in the office performing remote work for customers, other days we complete work on customer sites.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

So far the programme has been very enjoyable. It has been consistently interesting, by providing me with a range of intestesting tasks to enhance my knowledge.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have greatly developed my skills with Tekgem. Tekgem has also supported me through extra certifications such as CompTIA Security+. QA has given me the knowledge to apply during my daily work. Since starting the apprenticeship I have take on more responsiblity and complete work to a higher standard.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme has been well structured allowing me to learn what I need to whilst getting increasingly more detailed the further into the programme I go.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have received lots of support from Tekgem. Allowing me to develop my skills and gain additional certifications.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

QA provides lots of additional support and give lots of additional resources to properly prepare us for our EPA.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification I am working towards is helping to improve my knowledge in the role and improve my technical skills by providing labs to test the theory I am being taught.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Although Tekgem is a small company there is a range of extra-curricular activities that happen including go karting and additioanl networking events.

Why?

I have already recommened this company to a friend. I think it is a great way to enter the Cyber Security industry whist gaining work experience and getting a degree.
