Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

working on tasks. this can be either researching the task, if its a new technology that we aren't familiar with, or this can involve.
At times my daily tasks envolve fixing existing/reported bugs
But all in all, my daily tasks involve code in some way shape or form

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed it a lot. it was difficult, perhaps the hardest things ive ever done thus far, but my passion for learning as well as seeing how my grades in university were also sky rocketing due to my exposure to industry technology , really kelp me interested, and motivated.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During the apprenticeship i learn learn a lot of new skills, now that ive graduated, im simply refining and developing the existing skills i had. Im now able to do certain things faster, now able to solve certain problems quicker too, which i suppose comes with maturity

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

From the apprenticeship provider's side of things i would give it a 7 out of 10. understandably so, i was in the first ever group to do a software engineering degree apprenticeship. In hindsight, it was clearly structured well enough to have allowed me to graduate with a 1st

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Ermmmm, I don't quite know to be honest. the amount of support i received changed now that I'm a graduate software engineer, so I'm a bit more independent in my daily tasks you see. but during the apprenticeship itself, i received a tonne of support which im grateful for.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I was given sufficient support, we have a few mock presentations to prepare me for my VIVA as well as my End Point Assessment, and these helped a lot in over preparing me for what was to come. So much so that i got a distinction for my EPA

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I would say my training provider offered me a very broad skillset, so it was broad but not deep. I personally enjoyed this approach as i felt it offered me with just enough understanding of different skills, technologies, and architectures that i would need as i progress in this field

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Would you recommend Tekgem to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Well, due to the size of the company, there is a lot opportunity to learn , and learn fast. They don't throw you in the deep end immediately, but gradually allow you to get out of your comfort zone which i personally appreciated when i started.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tekgem?

Be, willing to lean, because that is more or less the sort of environment we have at work. ever learning, always, and in this tech space technology moves at a rapid speed, so that love of learning will take you far. Be someone who takes responsibility for your growth
